"Last year I participated in a residency at the Pittsburgh Glass Center. During that time I worked with abused women from the Bethlehem Haven women's shelter.

Several women came to the PGC to make glass twigs which we were assembling for "The Communal Nest," an installation I was working on at that time. Seeing their scars, I was deeply impacted by their experiences. I felt lucky and realized how important one's choices are to the duration and quality of one's life. The people we invite in—whether the bond is permanent or not—dramatically shape our future. My new work is based on the experiences from this project.

With this work I examine the concept that our choices leave a permanent imprint on us and direct our lives. Whether they seem momentous or small, are impulsive or considered, we become inescapably bound to them. To represent and study this bond I have taken customary pairs of everyday, domestic objects—a teapot and cup, a creamer and sugar bowl, a dustpan and broom—making one object beautiful and the other ugly, binding them with a glass chain, a tattered ribbon, or an imposing shadow. Tethering them together, I examine the dynamics between regrets and hope, enabler and dependent, confidence and self-doubt."
