"Infinite Obsession-How Did I Get Here"
Michael Glancy

Michael Glancy, acclaimed for his glass and metal sculptures, will lead off the year’s lecture series at the Art Glass  Forum | New York.

Mr. Glancy’s creations incorporate blown and plate glass, onto which copper, bronze, silver, and on occasion, gold is fused in a process known as electroforming. Like highly charged phenomena revealed under a microscope, Glancy’s superbly designed and crafted glass and metal forms defy their compact format and make grand statements rewarding viewers with unexpectedly dynamic shapes and intricate patterns, which typify his opulent and singular style.  Spanning the realms of alchemy and art, his exquisite vessels have been alternately described as geological and organic, architectonic and thoroughly modern, intricately materialistic and metaphysical.

Glancy received both a BFA and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design where he studied glass with Dale Chihuly in the 1970’s.  His critically acclaimed work is held in many public and private collections in the United Stated, Europe and Asia, including Carnegie Museum of Art, PA; Corning Museum of Glass, NY; Detroit Institute of Arts, MI; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; Museum of Fine Arts Houston, TX; Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Renwick Gallery, Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia Museum of Art, PA; Glasmuseum, Ebeltoft, Denmark; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris; France; Museum of Contemporary Art, Hokkaido, Japan; Victoria & Albert Museum, London, England.

St. Michael’s Church, 225 West 99th Street, New York, NY 10025, is an ideal setting for the Art Glass Forum's meetings.  The Church was designed and decorated by Louis C. Tiffany between 1895 and 1925 and is one of the only extant Tiffany interiors in the New York metropolitan area.

Please note that this meeting will take place in the Recital Hall on the second floor of St. Michael’s.

The featured speaker’s presentation begins at 7:00 PM and is preceded by a wine and cheese reception at 6:30

The Art Glass Forum | New York meets the first Tuesday of each month (from October through May) at St. Michael’s Church.
